Poetry Workshop Participant
Duties of Volunteer:
Take part in workshop with shelter residents. With other volunteers and shelter residents, read published poetry and discuss. Then invited to write your own poetry.
Qualifications:
An interest in poetry. Formal writing skills are not needed. An interest in listening and empowering those who are homeless to write poetry.
Days and times needed: Every other Wednesday 1:30-3:00, but may have new day/time during summer months.
Does the volunteer work with veterans in this position? Veterans are one of the populations served at this shelter and occasionally take part in poetry workshop.
Orientation: supervision, training and evaluation given to volunteer: Yes, by the shelter’s volunteer coordinator
Volunteer benefits: (parking, meals, transportation, work environment) The environment is friendly, supportive, a chance to share thoughts that emerge from poetry. Free parking on Lakeside Avenue
