Pickup, Prepare, Arrange, and Distribute Flowers
At BigHearted Blooms, we deliver joy through bouquets of recycled flowers. We gather fresh flowers after they've served their first purpose (from grocery stores, funerals, weddings, and other sources), and create new bouquets and surprise those in retirement communities, hospitals, senior living, and other health and long-term care settings with a bouquet and a moment of conversation and connection. By bringing bouquets and personal moments of connection, we boost the emotional health of those facing a variety of life challenges. We believe that, by planting seeds of joy and showing acts of kindness at scale, we can be a catalyst to fundamentally improve the overall health of the most isolated and lonely individuals in our community. There are many ways to get involved. BigHearted Blooms volunteers:
- Pick up flowers from donors around Cleveland (days and locations vary)
- Prepare the flowers for re-use in the BigHearted Blooms workshop (workshops are weekly on Tuesday 9:30-11:00 and Wednesday 10:30-12:00)
- Create new floral arrangements in the BigHearted Blooms workshop (workshops are weekly on Tuesday 11:30-1:00 & Wednesday 12:30-2:00 and once/month on Sunday 10:30-12:30)
- Transport the flowers to care facilities (typically on Tuesday or Thursday)
- Deliver the arrangements to individuals residing in care facilities (typically on Thursday)
Things to remember: There are no specific skill or training requirements. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Our warehouse does not have AC in the summer, and the heating is unpredictable in the winter so layers are recommended! Many people stand to do their work but there are chairs available for those who prefer to sit.
Age Limits: Children of any age can attend with an adult. Youth age 13 and older may volunteer on their own.
